Oriental Carpet Brokers Ltd. was originally established in 1976 as the wholesale and brokerage division of the Rippon Boswell International Group. In common with all other Rippon Boswell companies, its specialised field was in handmade Oriental rugs and carpets.

Rippon Boswell & Company, the first parent company, was established in England in 1884, and has for long been recognised as the world’s only leading auction house specialising exclusively in rare and antique Eastern carpets and textiles.

From 1976 to 2004 Oriental Carpet Brokers was actively engaged in providing brokerage and importation services to the international Oriental carpet trade.

A significant increase in its holdings of outstanding old and antique carpets, combined with a move to permanent and centrally-located warehouse premises in Bondway Storage, Vauxhall, London SW8, decided the company to sell on a limited basis direct to the public. Our parental Company also changed and Oriental Carpet Brokers is nowadays a trading division of Bickenstaff & Knowles Ltd.

Much of the old and antique stock derives from the closing down of the Anglo Persian Carpet Company’s famous gallery premises in South Kensington. These important goods were consigned to Oriental Carpet Brokers under an exclusive brokerage agreement. As former customers of the Anglo Persian Carpet Company will readily testify, this stock was individually selected over many years to the highest possible standards of authenticity, craftsmanship and condition.
