This outstanding item provides a text-book example of connoisseur category work from Persia's most easterly province of Khorassan, which has long been famed for the brilliance of its weavers and the masterly originality of its design artists. Within a traditional medallion arrangement, this work presents a wealth of detail, a graceful flow of pattern and a marvellous feeling for individual colour and overall tonality which are all quintessentially of the highest Khorassan character. The visual presence of this fine rug is substantially enhanced by the lustrous wool of its pile, which imparts a marvellous depth and iridescence to its superb colours. A supremely-accomplished East Persian item from the Gutchan area.
